Section Overview

Security services are regulated by the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005. In order to ensure that they abide by the Act and its rules, including the Code of Conduct and related restrictions, security guards must be knowledgeable about the Act. We provide students with an introduction to the law by presenting all pertinent provisions and discussing the Code of Conduct.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to explain and identify:

  1. Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005
    • describe how a person is responsible for licensing, including the application process and necessary requirements
    • outline the basic responsibilities, expectations, procedures, laws, and restrictions
    • explain why a license must be obtained
  2. Code of Conduct
    • discuss the key requirements and the effects of not complying
    • describe the complaint process
